Gold Panda produces a perfectly imperfect hybrid of beats caught between the roughness of traditional hip-hop and the beauty of electronic. To the unrefined ear it could sound, exactly that, unrefined. There is much perfectionism at play here as Gold Panda makes a sound that reminds me of Prefuse 73, but less indulgent of layers and void of scratching. This would mesh perfectly with the likes of Nosaj Thing, Daedalus or Flying Lotus. The video using old footage from when home videos were new are fun and show amusements parks that would be hard-pressed to amuse the overstimulated youth of today, yet cease to fascinate in a strange yearning for what has passed.
