Music video by Nirvana performing Smells Like Teen Spirit. (C) 1991 Geffen Records
Is it too soon? I know this is probably the most played out song and video of all-time, and I too rejected it for the better part of two decades. But really, it is a great song and video. It transformed the direction that popular music was heading forever and put an end to the dreadful hair band years. True Nirvana fans would eventually loathe it’s existence for the fact that people that weren’t true fans could only name this single hit. The time for shunning this gem has surely passed, it truly is the anthem of a generation, my generation. I haven’t watched the video in some time and I have to say it looks better than ever. It takes me back to my basement and bedroom bands that would always fall back on this cut because everybody knew it and everybody could play it. That’s the true genius of this classic!

Tristen has been causing a stir with her premiere album called Charlatans At The Garden Gate. Her dysfunctional lyrics delivered with pop charm on Baby Drugs, show that she is going to be hard to categorize, but sure to inspire intrigue among people who aren’t satisfied by the tried and true formulas shoved down our throats everyday on the radio. So what if you don’t approve of the lyrics, does it make the song any less beautiful? I don’t think so, but you’ll have to decided for yourselves. I can’t wait to hear more from this Nashville songwriter.
Artist: Afrika Bambaataa & the Soulsonic Force
Few tracks could ever be as influential as this one by one of the original and most recognized hip hop dj’s Afrika Bambaataa. Bambaataa took a sample from Kraftwerk’s Trans Europe Express and added an American urban flavor to it and the rest is hip hop history. This song will still make people get up at a party over 20 years later, it’s still relevant and makes everyone wish they could breakdance even though sadly most cannot!
Eddie Vedder has put together some of his finest work in the absence of the band that he became famous with. I like Pearl Jam, but his solo work has really hit me, showcasing just how talented this grunge rock front man truly is. Eddie did the soundtrack for a movie called Into The Wild. This video features scenes from that movie as well as a truly beautiful song!
